My First Week As Self-Employed: The Good The Bad And The Not So Pretty

Today is Friday and it’s my first week as self-employed.

There were hours, I was singing, I quit my job and I like it, a parody of I kissed a girl and I like it. There were hours I was pissed off. There were hours I thought about money, I think that was most of the hours. Finally, there were hours I was happy to see results of my hard work.

I was pissed off about seeing Moms4Palin blog featured on CNN. (click the link to read more about that. Not it is not what you think. It is not because I do not support her, it is for another reason).

One of my neighbors pissed me off too. He talked to my husband in my absence. He expressed his concern, saying, “how could your wife leave her job? How are you going to maintain all the expenses on your own?” Why are my life choices any of his business? The fact is, if you are not afraid to give up on some of life’s luxuries you can live life on one salary too.

Well of course, I thought about money. How will I generate it? Will my idea work? Will I generate enough to pay back my investments? Most disturbing, was that this is a first week in ten years I did not earn a paycheck. I even had a dream about getting a part time job. I do not think I should do that. I want my full focus to be on my biz.

The happy results of my work were that, the number of members on my networking group increased from 42 to 58. The traffic on my website doubled and more people are leaving comments.

I learned that personally reaching out to people helps create more customers.

I got excited because Chase agreed to support my Networking Event by giving me items to give away.  One of their employees will be attending as well. And because I am a Chase customer, there is an opportunity for referral fees.

I also got excited because one reader said, “Your site is so positive, it’s a breath of fresh air.” That just made my day.

I got the taste of, what it is like to deal with contractors that disappear on you. The VA I hired, had a family emergency. She needed time off. All the tasks that needed to be completed by the end of this week are now on hold. I am not happy about that.

I am working on getting information about ads by google. I am also looking to attend more networking events in NYC. If you have information on these matters please let me know.
