I love my home and my neighborhood. If I could choose another place, I think I'd have to choose a vacation cottage, not a new and different permanent year-round home. I love the outdoors, so a cabin or cottage in or near woods and water would be best. It could be north or south, east or west of my permanent address, but it would need to be simple,...

A day to myself -- not.
Date: 15th Mar
I was supposed to have a day to myself yesterday. My school was off, comp time for conferences, and my son had school. He came home sick. Instead of spending the day napping and reading books, I ended up taking his temperature and feeding him small bland snacks and taking him to the doctor. And I feel rotten for feeling bad that I didn't get "my" day....

Three things, interesting or not

I am hearing impaired. I wear two hearing aids, and I am learning lip reading.My son, my second child, is blind and has Asperger's syndrome (high-functioning autism).I need a lot of sleep to function well. I wonder if the above two have anything to do with that? :) Never mind, I think I'll get ready for bed.

Self-sufficiency

I would like to see my children grow up knowing how to solve problems and take care of themselves. That can include knowing who to ask for help, knowing when to call the doctor, and understanding that coping alone isn't mandatory. I just want them to know how to take life by the horns without getting gored in the process.

Why do I work?

The ideal balance -- at least the balance I long for -- would be teaching half time.  I could job share happily and put more energy into dealing with our disabled child. Unfortunately, I'm the primary breadwinner and the holder of the benefits, so part time work isn't an option. I compromise by fiercely garding my home time and using my sick days...
