About Me: I'm a work-from-home blogger and a moderator here at Work it, Mom! I'm mom to my 18-month-old daughter.
My interests: I'm a foster "mom" for an animal rescue group (www.bigdogrescue.com), so I have an ever-changing crew of pets hanging out at my house. I also love hikes, reading, food, wild birds, surfing the Web and gardening. And I like to obsessively read about gardening and blog about it...and just generally avoid the really hard physical tasks as long as possible. :)
My website/blog: http://www.diylife.com
How I de-stress: Walking in the woods, reading, queso & tortilla chips (okay, I'm not bragging), scalding hot tea, jaunts to Target, home & garden mags, online window shopping, chocolate, glass of wine, alone time, hot bath
Best advice I've gotten: Um...not sure
An adjective to describe me: Inquisitive
My favorite book: Lord of the Rings
My favorite movie: A Passage to India

My Life To-Do List
Currently on my Life Wish List:
Learn to play violin
Get nice furniture
Buy a trampoline!
Live in the country
Create a wonderful garden
Lots of beach vacations
Goals I am working on:
Start daily walking and stretching again
Worry less
Be calm
Plan some travel/getaway time into our lives
Get out in the garden every day, even if I only get a tiny bit of yard work done it will all add up. Right...?
Projects I am working on:
Never-ending list of house repairs
Animal rescue volunteer work. I usually foster just one dog at a time now that I have a toddler. I also maintain the rescue group's master list of foster animals. It's my job to try and keep track of all our critters. It gets very confusing!
Backyard birding. I've become interested in learning about birds and learning to identify the bird species in my backyard. I've id'd about 25 species so far. My husband calls me The Bird Nerd. Right now I am focusing on building a nesting box for Carolina Wrens. See? Nerdy, huh?
Never seem to make progress on this goal--time! time! Never enough!
My Day: 18th April 2008
1 thing I want to remember about today ...
I got stuff done around the house and felt I could cope with all the to-do stuff. Not feeling overwhelmed by it all anymore, which is great. I have some caulking and painting to do this weekend and I'm actually looking forward to tackling it iinstead of dreading it.
What was most challenging today ...
Having to manage without my laptop, which is in the shop.
What made me the happiest ...
5 minutes of quiet (okay - might have been more!) between M going to bed and husband getting home. Ahh, sweet silence.
My day in one word ...
Productive
My awesome accomplishment for the day ...
Got a little pruning time in out in the yard. Not much, but every little bit helps.

Hi Diane, Yes I love the movie It's a Wonderful Life...Also I noticed your an animal love. I rescued a baby sparrow from a crow that plucked him out of its nest the other day. I saw him do it and yelled at him as he was snatching him, he was startled and dropped the tiny bird to the ground. I went over and picked it up and put it back into the nest. So far so good, Score is baby sparrow (1) and crow went hungry. :)

Hi Diane,
I'm a huge animal lover myself! I've always done fundraising for animal welfare and have worked at the ASPCA, and 2 local humane societies. Now I work part time for the Marine Mammal Stranding Center - they rescue and release seals, sea turtles, dolphins and whales! I do lots of fostering - right now mostly kittens. Nice to 'meet' you!

Thank you, neighbor! You are right. I am an instructor for survival lessons. We are getting away from calling them swimming lessons because that is an added bonus. The goal is to make sure that should a child find themselvse in a body of water they have the self rescue skills to prevent a drowning. My son went thru the program and then I hosted an instructor at my home so I saw the lessons on a daily basis for an entire summer. One day after a horrible day in Corporate America, I talked to my husband about becoming an instructor and he was all for it. It was the best decision I've ever made. I'm spending more time with my children and touching other's lives too. It is very rewarding. So how did you become a work from home blogger?
