I'm a work-at-home mom and freelance writer living in the shadow of the nation's capital. Aside from writing PunditMom's Spin Cycle, you can find me at my blog PunditMom, as well as contributing to blogs at MomsRising, MotherTalk, The Soccer Mom Vote, and the Parent Bloggers Network!
My interests:
Travel, reading and writing, photography, spending time with friends and sipping some delicious red wine!
A long walk, a massage or a pedicure, snuggling with my daughter at bedtime.
Best advice I've gotten:
Don't take it personally. That's a hard one for me to follow, but I try to remember that when my youngest is acting out or misbehaving. Sometimes I worry that it's because of something I've done (or done wrong) as a parent, but I'm getting better at accepting that that is not always the case.
My favorite book:
A Separate Peace
My favorite movie:
Lost in Translation
Family
Number of children:
3
Age of children:
Two adult stepdaughters, one daughter age 7
Relationship status:
Married
Parenting advice I follow:
You can't give too many hugs! Even when our kids are acting their worst, a hug can calm things down quickly and let them know we love them, even when we're disciplining them.
Parenting advice I ignore:
Time-outs. They have never worked with our daughter who is now 7. Interestingly, we get better results with a "time-in!"
Favorite activity with my kids:
Walking and biking around the neighborhood in the late afternoon. It's a great way for us as a family to unwind and reconnect after busy days at school and work.
Work
Work status:
Consultant/Freelancer
Industry:
Writing & Editing
Hours worked per week:
20-40
How much I like my job:
I love it!
Job stress level:
Pretty stressful
Best thing about my job:
The flexibility! Being a freelance writer gives me the freedom to coordinate my work schedule and my first-grader's schedule pretty well! Plus, I get to interview tons of interesting people!
Worst thing about my job:
Even with the flexibility, sometimes it's difficult to juggle deadlines, dinner and dating (my husband, of course!). But I think that's the story with many women's lives.
My dream job:
This is as close as it gets, unless you count wanting to be Queen of the World!
