What is your best tip for easing your kids back into the routine of school?

About 2 week prior to the start of school, I start getting my kids to get ready for bed by 8:00 and slowly get them to go to sleep earlier and ealier. It usually takes almost the full 2 weeks to get them back to their 8:30-9:00 sleep time. If I don't do this they have trouble getting up for school when it starts.
