How do you prep your school-ager to switch from after-school daycare to staying home alone for a few hours after school?

I've decided that in order to preserve my sanity I need to find a part-time personal assistant. I'm not sure that is the appropriate title but this person would need to be ready, willing and able to assist with a multitude of tasks like housekeeping

How can I stop arguing with my husband?
I need him to get a part-time job to pay some of the bills because although I am the full bread winner, I don't make enough to get the credit debt down and pay extra stuff.
We argue because he is a second langu

You can't really force anyone to do anything. That includes spouses. I'd suggest looking for a part-time job for yourself if it is important to you to pay down the debt. I'm assuming he is currently home with the kid(s) full-time. Let him continue to do that and you continue to earn they paycheck(s) to support the family.

How clean is your house really? Do you hide things in the closet when visitors come, or do you just tidy up a bit before they arrive? Are you happy with this aspect of your life in general?
Answered on 26th June 2008:
I have a housekeeper that comes in once a week so from that perspective it is pretty good. With two kids and three pets I sure as heck wouldn't eat off of my floors though. But it is a mostly dust and dirt free environment. I used to be a professional organizer which doesn't mean I am superbly organized but I am definitely not a pack rat either. I think I have a good handle on the piles. LOL

And now I have to truly feel grateful that I'm not the only person on the planet that has a family member who hasn't been able to cut the umbilical cord, or in your case the, um, whatever it is that would be the male equivalent.
All I can say is, Thank God my mother hasn't learned how to text message, yet!!
Glad to meet you, I think we'll end up online BFF's because well, we both seem really awesome!

Thanks for the reply, good to hear someone has made it successfully through a nasty and expensive divorce. How do you stay so positive? I feel like my life is over in a way, I never intended on going this alone. On the other hand, I'm so much happier in other ways and enjoy my kids so much more that HE isn't zapping all my energy.
