- After obtaining a PhD in the social sciences, my professional journey has taken me into local government, private consulting, public relations/affairs, and federal government. My most recent position came after a 10-month stint as a stay-at-home mom thanks to a massive layoff. I have no doubt that being a stay-at-home mom is not the right life for me but I do find it difficult to balance a full-time (and relatively new) job with motherhood. My husband also works full-time and tries to be an equal partner but, since his job is even more demanding than mine, more of the burden falls on my shoulders.
