Has anyone asked for a transfer within their company? I probably won't b/c I think the only option I'd have is to transfer to a dept where travelling is required (NOT preferable), but I'd still like to hear stories if there are any. Yes, I admit, I'm thi

Has anyone ever hired a professional oganizer? I desperately need help in this arena (small home + tendency not to organize papers/etc. = aaagh!!). Recent questions about hiring someone to clean house made me think of this. I need an organizer more

College funds or Retirement funds. I find myself struggling to determine whether or not I should begin college funds for my twins, or continue increasing my 401K contributions. I wonder whether ear-marking funds for my children will hurt them in the lon
Answered on 16th December 2008:
Gee, that's a tough one. I don't claim to be any sort of expert. We are in a fortunate position to contribute a LITTLE to both retirement and Sect. 529 (college). One weird benefit is that it kinda forces us to diversify b/c they are completely different funds managed by different entities. And right now, of course they're both way down, so it wouldn't have made much difference if we did just one OR the other. There certainly are financial advantages to having a 529 plan, and I would imagine that financial aid offices would look on this commitment we've made favorably. But OTOH, I get nervous b/c we only have one child, and if he decides not to go to college...aaargh! But then we look and see that THIS year, schools like Harvard and such are 50K A YEAR (incl tuition & room & bd). But OTOH, I totally hear your point about "relieving the burden" when my son will have to arrange care for us....so, not an easy decision; many factors to consider. - Paula.
