O'kay, I have gotten my web page up and running on the internet. Does anyone know what is the best way to get traffic to my site? By this I mean, what makes some pages pop up at the top of a search page?
Answered on 14th December 2008:
Start by promoting (or announcing) your site to your existing clients, friends, family, former colleagues etc. You will want to indicate the primary purpose and intended audience for your site and ask that they forward the information to others that may be interested in your business. Also, make sure that you're advertising your site on your business correspondence documents (letterhead, email signature, business cards, brochures etc.). Then, you will need to ensure that your site is optimized for search engine placement and ensure that you've registered with the major search engines. This is a start, there are many options and tools for promoting your site. However, depending on your industry and target keywords, it can take a while to gain top placement. You can mix in a paid search engine placement strategy if you'd like to drive more traffic to your site sooner.
Do you worry about the amount of time you and your family spend with technology--watching TV, online, playing video games?
Answered on 1st November 2007:
I do not feel that technology is replacing our family time. However, we do have to be more disciplined and aware of our usage of technology. My business is technology-related, therefore when I'm using a computer, I'm usually working. I try to stick when my work schedule (when possible) and I use a seperate computer for "online entertainment". For children on technology, using a egg/kitchen timer is a great idea. Time seems to move quickly when you're in front of the computer or television. We may have an hour of free/available time for watching television. We mostly watch on weekends. Generally, we use Tivo to record our favorite programs. When I have free time I use my Tivo to catch up on my favorite programs; this reduces the amount of meaningless channel & web page surfing (although in small quantities, meaningless surfing can be a great way to decompress).
