Do mommy/parenting magazines (Parent, American Baby, etc.) help you out or stress you out?

I read American Baby, Baby Talk, Parenting whenever I am at the doctor's office. I read only the articles that I can relate too. So I find it very helpful.

I find they stress me out. I like looking at the pictures and at the ads. (This mystifies my husband...) But the content just makes me feel inadequate. I'm with you, Nataly!

They actually bore me to tears. I have tried repeatedly over the years to enjoy those magazines and they have never been of interest to me.

I don't know why, but they've always stressed me out - I get overwhelmed when I read them, like here are all the things I am not doing (e.g. inventive creative craft projects or disciplining methods...)
Great question. You know, I found them helpful with my first particularly when he was under one. My kids are now 6 and 9 and it seems that most of the parenting magazines are geared towards the under four set. I find the most useful information from books and websites.

haha i find it more useful so i can show my husband i am right when we are arguing over some parenting issue LOL (thats probably not a good thing to do, but he usually conceeds so he doesnt have to read the article!)

Great question! I dont carry many subscriptions, just because of the added clutter - - and 'one more thing to do' that they bring to my life.

Having said that . . . I often find interesting tidbits in the magazines, but having done the parenting thing 3x over at this point, I don't honestly find much in them that are useful?
