Do you decorate for the holidays? How much time do you spend (or not) and why (or not)?”

  • I decorate probably more than I should. I love christmas and decorations. It is great for the kids too. I spend probably the better part of the day decorating for christmas. I have my outside decorations that the husband does and then I have my inside decorations. I do it all inside except the tree in which the kids help to decorate. They love it.

  • We put up the tree early (the boys like to 'camp' under it) and some other assorted decorations. Lights go up outside (not too many--a snowman, some candy canes and lights on a bush). We do a little at a time..each of the decorations has a story that the kids tell, so the whole process is part of the tradition. The process is more important than the result

  • For the past few years I haven't decorated much but did in years gone by. With animals putting up a tree was not a wise choice so instead I would hang things or scatter Santa's and Snowman around on shelves with a few lights. As for gifting....my family has decided it's just to commercialized.... Spending hundreds of dollars on items that will soon find their way into a closet to gather dust. We do give gifts to the little ones from Santa but not mountains of gifts. Now we have a calmer day spending time with family and friends over a good meal making memories.

  • No, we don't decorate at all other than putting up a tree. And we are even getting away from doing that.

  • You know, I love to decorate, but I find I do minimal decorating because I am renting an apartment. I actually refrain from buying a lot of things because of this fact. When I buy a home I will buy more of those things and decorate more because I'll be putting the energy into something I actually own. Right now I just decorate the tree. That's it.

  • Oh, Yes I decorate! My tree is up and it is the first time before Dec 16th ever. I takes days to decorate. I make the decorations for the tables. I decorate my mantle with flowers and angels and such. I bake and and make cakes and decorate gift baskets . It makes my heart happy. It is a time to remember the things my kids made a time to remember when I was a kid. I look at the last Christmas cards my grandmothers sent me. That to me is better than any present I could get.

  • I probably spend a total of four hours or so. I love the decorations and I like the house to look festive, but I'm not so into it that I want to devote a whole day to it. I also have to factor in that I'm on my own when it comes to decorating. My husband is just not interested in helping. He doesn't even like the stuff that guys generally enjoy, like hooking up the lights. Nope, it's me up on the ladder too. And this year with a 1yr old, I have less time to do it, so I'm working on it in stages. Day 1: locate decorations in the garage, Day 2: hang wreath on the front door, Day 3: put up lights, Day 4: clear a space for the tree, Day 5: too tired to get the tree, Day 6: still too tired to get the tree... Hopefully the tree will be up before the 25th!

  • I try to decorate for the holidays. A friend came over and helped me get my tree up and together. Our tree is a white artificial tree, and we've had the ornaments for a couple of years. So this year, I've spent $20 on ornaments, 1 annual new ornament for each member or our family.
