I was never certain of who the violator was, but I could not stand the person(s) who would tear off half a bagel and then leave the mangled half behind in the office kitchen as if someone else might want it. Either use a knife, save the other half for later, or feed it to the birds (except where prohibited by law of course). And then there was Ed. Every Thursday the firm would order in dinner for the attorneys. Dinner was not supposed to start until 6. But Ed would always seem to be the first one there and would pick at all the food with his bare hands. Note: Ed's an old guy who uses a handkerchief. Need I say more?! Anyway, to escape the Ed contamination, we started having to eat at 5:15. Sorry, my ramblings probably qualify more as "gross" than "annoying."

I worked in an office environment for sooo long and I really don't miss it. Your answers really have me smiling, remembering all those things you have to put up with, especially in a cubicle-setup. What I hated was how loudly people would talk on the phone - even very personal conversations. And one girl would always, always LOUDLY call in her lunch order to the wrap place across the street. Ugh. Always the same thing! The Santa Fe chicken wrap. All this time and it's etched into my memory that that was her fav.

The thing I find most annoying with my colleagues is that they don't complete what they need to then hand it off to me to finish.

It's annoying when co-workers complain about other co-workers, particularly if they do this by comparing themselves to the other staff. Everybody is different and they perform differently. They should instead look at the final result.

When people stop by to talk or ask a question when i am on the phone and try to talk while i am trying to listen!

None of the coworkers I have now do this, but when I was just starting out in journalism I had a coworker who decided that it was his job to "teach me the business," whether I wanted him to or not. This often involved publicly correcting me for other people's mistakes ("They're more experienced than you, they might be embarrassed if I pointed out their errors in front of people, but this way, they'll still get the message") and asking me to re-edit a story or re-work a layout even if there was nothing wrong with it ("It's good for you to practice, you're so young!") Finally, one day, I very loudly but very politely told him that if I needed a lesson that badly, the company would never have hired me, and while I appreciated his pointing out my own errors, I didn't need his help in order to learn from other people's. Ack... more than a decade later, it still irritates me!
some days, just that fact that I HAVE co workers...I work in a cube farm--and cannot believe how many people use speaker phones, even for personal conversations!!

Bring fish for lunch! There should be a law against warming up leftover fish in an office microwave!
One of my co-workers always leaves his phone on ring instead of putting it on vibrate. It's a loud ring and I think it's inappropriate for our particular business setting (Navy public affairs). It totally annoys me.
