Does anyone have suggestions for a two year old who will not eat anything but hot dogs? We were not faced with this problem the first time around...

My first thought is your child will outgrow the hot dog stage so just let it be. If you are really concerned about it talk to your pediatrician to find out if you SHOULD be concerned. I have found that my kids' pediatrician usually has a great perspective on things like this.

If he were eating paint chips dipped in hot fudge and caramel sauce I might be more inclined to worry about it.
ok, you can be really sneaky and trade the brand he likes with one that's like made from tofu(no offense to tofu lovers)! Don't tell him....maybe he won't like them...if he says it tastes yucky, just tell him that his tongue is telling him that he must have had enoughof them and that it wants something new.

He will eat something...he's going to be hungry! kids always eat in the long run!

is that too sneaky? We have a picky eater in our house...so we have had to try many tricks to get her to eat. And I don't know about everyone else's kids, but mine were and still are phase eaters. They eat one particular food for quite a while then they change to something new. And if I try to give them the previous food they swear that they don't like it and never ever have in their whole life!!! LOL!!

Ah, here's an interesting one that sounds gross but I swear it's not!
Chicken nuggets with peanut butter on top or as a dipping sauce. The peanut butter may work for the hot dogs to be dipped in, too. By taking organic peanut butter and mixing it with powdered milk and honey (I can hear all of you with food allergies squirming - sorry!) it gives the right mix of different proteins. Lathered on chicken nuggets is great b/c it's even more protein. Good luck!
The best advice I got was to relax and be sneaky! They're not going to starve or end up malnourished. I had a hot dog maniac too. Buy a good quality hot dog (lean, low sodium, organic), provide some special dipping sauces (unsweetened applesauce, pear puree etc). Mine's now 7 and still loves 'dipping sauces' Mine actually liked hot dogs dipped in yogurt. I put the sauces in special cups. Try making something like a hot dog pizza, or a hot dog stuffed with cheese, or offering other things that are shaped like hot dogs. Serve good nutrious drinks like fruit smoothies. I always teach my kids that they should try bites of things 'in case they like it'.

For a while our oldest son would only eat meatballs and peas. So a lot of things became "new meatballs" and "special peas". Eventually we got him eating new foods because he got to use dip or a toothpick... Even now he and his brother will gobble anything down if it is presented on a stick. I don't get it, but they eat. New special silverware/plate set may make it new and special.

Good Luck! Hang in there.
Our daughter was a very picky eater so I feel your pain. Things we tried:

-Mix in her favorite food with something new - can you put a piece of hot dog on a fork together with a small piece of something else? (pasta or vegetable?)

-Distract her while giving her something new to eat. I know they say to just put food in front of your kid and let them eat, but I could not stand her just eating one thing so I'd read to her and sometimes she got into it enough that she would eat new things.
