Yes and Heck yes
Unfortunately, finances wouldn't allow me to :( Instead, I became creative about my working situation and set my goals on starting a business I could run from home. I actually had (have) a business plan, projection sheets, contact database and more...(it helps that I was in computers for 15 years) Now, I am proud of who I am and what I am doing.

Nope. Just the standard, 3 months
no really i had two months off
I took off three solid months before returning back to work part time from home or at places that would allow me to bring my kids to work. So, really, I took off 3 years and did contract work for non-profits and small businesses. I made sure to keep up on my skills (marketing, web design, and fund development for non-profits) so taht when I did go back full time this past September it wasn't hard to find a job in my field. Continuing to do SOME work throughout my "off" time helped tremendously.
