Do you relax by watching TV or do you find it more of a time suck and distraction?”

  • Pretty much the only time I have to watch television is at night in bed right before going to sleep. It helps me unwind a bit. Sometimes I turn it on during the day just for background noise, - usually on HGTV, but I keep it on really low, otherwise it becomes really annoying to me after a while!

  • I can't help it - I love my tv! We watch it most nights to unwind from the day and I have several must watch shows - thanks goodness for DVR!
I am very excited that the writers strike is supposed to be ending, and I was so excited to have Lost back on last night!!

  • We rarely watch television in our house. During the week we are focused on and busy with school, work, family time, homework, dinner and bedtime routines. There really isn't time for television. If I want to relax I schedule a massage or go get a pedicure/manicure for the weekend. During the week relaxation looks a lot like going to bed and getting 8 hours of sleep. Television does not equal relaxation for me.

  • Ok, I will fully admit it. I will turn the TV on for background noise at times. AND I took 1 day to myself, pulled out Season 1 of West Wing and sat down with popcorn and watched the whole bloody season without being interrupted As for regular TV, I'm into L&O, NCIS, and CSI (I used to work for the Forensics Dept. so a lot of the stuff I've got a handle on), but with 1 exception (DWTS), TV reality shoes are an insult to my intelligence and I'm sick of that stuff. Give me something with some meat on the bones and good characterizations that I can sink my teeth into.

Now, on the other side, because I write fanficton about an old sci-fi show (my vice), I put the DVDs on to play in the background while I write. It sets the mood, provides me with the nuiances of the characters and I can wax nostalgic

  • YES!
I NEED to watch 15 min of something mind numbing and funny before bed.
Seinfeld, Scrubs, something like that ;)

  • actually for me it's kind of a background thing unless it's something i am really interested in. I usually have it on while i am on my computer and go back and forth (waiting for something to finish doing whatever on the computer, watch tv, etc.) other than that it's relaxing! i usually only watch about 2 hours a night and really dont pay much attention to it most of that time LOL

  • I have found TV to be a major time drain, although I don't watch it much anymore. In the quest to figure out what is causing my insomnia, I think I've got it narrowed down to watching TV before going to bed. I actually don't watch much TV and there are days when the TV isn't on at all. Now I'm trying to convince my husband that we don't need satellite anymore.
