Has anyone else overwhelmed themselves by volunteering too much at church or school? My husband feels I volunteer way too much, and I am inclined to agree with him. It began with just baking a few cookies each week, then to teaching a class, then to volunteering with the homeless, and even volunteering in painting, etc. The list goes on and on. Although these are all good things for me to do, it is becoming stressful now instead of a blessing! ”

  • Listen to that nagging voice (the one in your head, not your dh!). Set a goal a weekly goal (I will give volunteer 5 hours this week) and stick to it. So many people and organizations need so much help it's hard to say no. Pick those causes you love and that truly matter. Right now I volunteer in my sons classroom and help with my other sons athletic teams because these are things that are HUGE for my boys. Prioritize taking care of yourself! If the good deeds are wearing you down, scale back for a while. You can always (as you well know!) volunteer more once youi feel under control.
