Should I be concerned that my 6yo's best friend has seen more scary movies than I have?”

  • Well we've already established that all play dates will take place at our house. And he's a good kid, but obviously not guided very well at home. I did tell him that we don't watch those kinds of movies in our house and when he's over, he should'nt bring them up.

  • I don't know if you need to worry. Is your son wanting to watch these movies now? I would worry if I saw signs that my child was being influenced, but he's young enough yet that you'd be pretty sure if/when it was happening. In your situation, however, I certainly would not be letting my child play at his friend's house, where it's clear they have worrisome standards. You can't control what happens over there, so I'd have the boys play at my house, where I do.

  • OK, scenario: My 6yo and his friend (who's the same age) are playing in the living room. My son says "have you ever heard the song jingle bells, batman smells yada yada yada..." and they laugh and giggle. Then the best friend says "have you ever heard the song; one, two Freddies comin for you" and so on and so forth. I stopped him and asked, where did you hear that? he says Freddie Crougar, and then he tells me he loves alien vs. predator, scream, and many more scary movies that seem WAY too scary for anyone under the age of 15 or 16. He comes from a house where the dad is not the best person and his mom is a hard working woman. They seem very nice, but he sometimes says or does things that worry me a little bit. The boys love each other and have known each other since birth. We just recently moved closer to them and they play all the time now. Should I be worried about the influence he has on my 6 year old?
