OK ladies! I need serious input on this decision. I work full time and have to work full time, probably until I am 70 to live in this area. (NYC METRO) I like working, honestly, but have recently gone to a business coach since I am unhappy with my media sales job. which I have been doing in various places for 14yrs. There is a big part of my job I LOVE, which is planning events. But I HATE the sales part. My hubby and I have decided it is in all of our best interest to switch jobs. and focus on event planning. So I have a great ( possible ) opportunity to get a job as a conference director - which would be amazing! ONLY there is travel involved. do any of you travel? how does it work for you? My family is very supportive and my 2 & 4 yr old are good boys. my hubby says go for it., but i do not want to have this all blow up in 6 months. The travel is once a month for 3 days at a clip. Thoughts? Being 35+ I really am excited that I finally found my niche. just not sure it is good to do with a family. thank you for reading this. I appreciate your insight.”

Deb, also remember that no decision has to be "forever." Give it a try! Maybe it really IS your dream job, and you'll be so glad you took it. The family will adjust. But in the event that it doesn't work out, you'll figure that out, too. Have faith in yourself and your family, make the leap and enjoy the ride!

Babe, seems like you just called yourself up the perfect job. The universe answered *(so you must really want it!) Go GET it. And while you are at it, keep on asking the universe for those things you want the most: happiness, a balanced life for your whole family....ask, ask, ask...I bet you'll get it! You have some kind of divine hook up, girl! When you're taking a breat, can I borrow the hook-up for a day or so? Lucky you, you made yourself lucky!

I certainly don't believe travel for work and being a mom are mutually exclusive. As an airline pilot, I am on the road an average of 3 days per week. Because my husband is also a pilot, we are able to arrange our schedules to where when one is gone, the other parent is home. In all honesty, I love this arrangement...I think it's wonderful that my husband is such an active parent and it doesn't all fall on me.

And if I can admit it (a little guilt here)...there are times I truly look forward to walking into a hotel room and enjoying the peace and quiet. Makes coming home all the better!

I say go for it, if it's a job that will make you happy. As my husband says: a happy wife is a happy life.

To underscore your commitment and desire to be with your family how about this: Maybe plan a day every month reserved for "Dinner out with the Boys" (hubby included) :-) ? Some place inexpensive, of course, but what I seem to notice with boys is their palates tend to be inexpensive. Some place where you can get, I dunno...sanwich rollups...bagel sandwiches...Papaya King...falafel...even the ol' local pizza parlor? (I won't say McD's) GL! - Paula.

GO FOR IT!! Three days a week and only once a month at that is nothing! Believe me, I'd jump at a chance like that!

I'm with momof2..go for it! I know it's not the same with moms as it is with dads when it comes to traveling. But if your like my family 2 boys as well they don't have a preference to which they would rather be with(mom or dad). and besides 3 days a month is not too much. My husband travels he's in Germany and Austria this week. He travels once a month for 3-5 days usually the boys miss him but they know he's working. We have a map of the world in my older boys room and we pin each state, country hes been to. I traveled myself for a bit while I was teaching and doing conferences. They sometimes got to go up from Illinois to Wisconsin (not too far) but they enjoyed meeting me up when they could. For me it was an experience that I would have kicked myself if I had not taken it. bottom line go for it!

GO FOR IT! Once a month 3 days at a clip...you might actually enjoy a little time away even though you will be working. Hey maybe you can take the family on trip one time and turn it into a vacation.
It will be good bonding time for your hubby and kids while you are away.
I live in NY too - I know exactly what you mean.
