i think it depends. for vday it is a rip off and soooo over done - no thought. it's like the default (unless he KNOWs you love flours and gets your favorites - obviously different!) my hubby has gotten me flours but yeah i would rather he pay attention and surprise me with something i never really thought he was paying attention to that i wanted and figured i would never get LOL but then who wouldnt want that?! i can't complain, i wouldnt know what to get me either!
I love getting flowers but would rather get them just because he was thinking about me or saw them and thought I would like them.
I adore flowers. For me, they're always worth more than the money spent for them.
Some years ago I was overworked, overstressed and depressed. I bought myself flowers to remind myself of all the beauty in the world, and to remind myself to see the beauty in my life. It helped!
Flowers are pure beauty...
"Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.' from Keats, Ode on a Grecian Urn
When I die, I want the announcement in the paper to say "Flowers preferred in lieu of donations" - I want my funeral filled with flowers! For that one moment I want everyone to experience that beauty, however fleeting, just like life itself.
For me, flowers are the perfect gift - always!

I love flowers, and my hubby brings them home on random occasion- which is delightful!
We both agree that giving flowers for vday is a cop out, more of a lazy gift idea. He liikes to be creative in giving me gifts, and puts a ton of thought into it not necessarily a ton of money.
This past moms day he wrote me a song from our boys. the best gift i ever got!

when he does bring home flowers, we both also agree that the florists are such a rip off! he will go to the small corner markets and buy a bunch of flowers for 12-$15. Very sweet.

Our first Vday 10years ago he sent be a huge bouquet from a florist that must have cost a fortune- I flipped out. He said he wasnt going to do it, but his mom said All Girls Should Get Flowers on VDAY.
hahahhahah She is sweet.

I like getting flowers. I especially like getting them as a surprise (non holiday). My husband sent flowers on the last day with my old company. The card with the flowers said, "To the start of something new...You'll be amazing." I was leaving the company and having our 2nd child a month later. I didn't know when I'd get to go back to work or where. Flowers like that are what I like.
I, too, love flowers, but I'd rather get live ones for the garden. I don't have to worry though- my husband has NEVER given me flowers!
I agree with you all. I tell my husband not to get caught up in sending the DZ. roses but he still does it every year.I'd much rather everything stated above and we can put the money elsewhere. I can't get mad when they come because I look ungrateful. Part of me thinks it is an easy fix for valentines day...quick dial up..and it's done for you. My husband is last minute mickey all the time.

OH ...I got it...I'll print this out and leave it on his desk chair. Do you think he'll get the very large hint?Of course cutting out the last minute mickey part.
I would rather he make me dinner, clean the dishes afterward, and then let me go to bed early and sleep in the next day. That would make any flowers smell that much sweeter! :o)
Flowers? I love growing them, I love tending to them, and I love having fresh-cut flowers for the entry way table. As far as receiving flowers from hubby? Although I appreciate the thought that goes behind receiving flowers, it's hard for me to justify the expense. I'd rather him take the money he would normally spend on a flower arrangement, and plant me a flower garden where I could enjoy them all the time. Now THAT would get my attention!
I have always told hubby that just one rose means just as much - and a rose for no reason means more than a dozen for a special occassion.
When I worked away from my hubby I did enjoy having flowers to look at while at work and remind me of him, but now that we are in business together - a hug and a kiss is just as nice!
