When you hired a caregiver or sent your kids to daycare/preschool for the first time, what was your main concern? I worried mostly about my daughter getting sick at daycare too often, but someone mentioned she was stressed out that her daughter might like the caregivers more than her as a mom. It never crossed my mind. What did you worry about?”

  • i worried about how they would treat her. i think we've all seen those hidden camera nightmares with kids and their caregiver! my daughter was 10 mo. old when i started looking for a caregiver. my sister's neighbor is a sahm who has a heart of gold so i have been very fortunate. in the back of my mind though i was still concerned about what went on throughout the day... i think sometimes watching new stories makes me a bit cynical... any way my daughter has always been happy and by the time she was 3 i decided to put her in a daycare/preschool to help her adjust to a classroom setting so by then she was able to talk and she was ready to be in that social environment

  • I returned to work when my daughter was 3mo old. I hired my caregiver because we shared similar values, I was adament about breastfeeding exclusively the first 6 months and trusted that she wouldn't sneak anything behind my back. She was extremely reliable, has a strong work ethic and loves children. She loves my daughter and I feel very lucky to have her. She is less than 5 minutes away from my job and I get to see my child during my lunch break. I know her family well and I believe that I am learning a lot from her about parenting.

  • When my son was a baby, I think the trustworthiness of the daycare provider(s) was my top concern, since I was basically going with strangers and he was so vulnerable b/c of his age. I do not have family in the area, nor did I really have personal referrals to go on for local daycare. AFter careful research, we ended up with a homecare provider who took up to 6 kids in her home, and I'm happy to say that, years later, she is basically a member of the family. I love her to death and am very grateful for the love she showed my son. Now that my son is older, he's better able to take care of himself and I have no problem with him being at a larger daycare center. - Paula.
