I generally have my chores done like laundry, dusting, dishes cleaned and put away before I leave on vacation but that simply for MY sanity. Generally I'm coming in the night before I have to go back to work and I'm draggin home a suitcase full of laundry most of the time come home to some order helps me.

Don't get me wrong somebody offers to pay for me to go on vacation what time do I need to be at the airport?

I'm not so concerned about the floors being mopped and everything being spotless, but I do like to have the laundry done and make sure all beds are made and there isn't anything just laying around.

A story about why I insist the beds are made while out of town: When I was in high school, my mom had a co-worker whose house caught fire (electrical) in the middle of the night while his family was on vacation. And according to my mom (who heard it from him) the fire fighters said something to him about the fact that all the beds were made because since it was the middle of the night, they checked the rooms but since they beds were made they knew no one had been sleeping there.

Or something like that - or that could've just been my mom's way of making us make our beds!

I very much like coming home to a clean house but usually the act of getting out of dodge is enough work all by itself. I try to hire someone to come clean while I'm away. Especially if I am going to be gone for more than a couple of days.

I used to be that way....before I had children. It'd be nice and I'd LOVE to go back to that. However, theory and reality are very often 2 entirely different things. Maybe in my next life...or when daughter goes off to college in 2 years, I can get back to doing that. Right now, as wonderful as it would truly be, it's low on the priorty totem pole. Frankly, I'm just lucky to get everybody out of the house on time to start on vacation. The rest of it...that's not in the same ballpark.
