  • I actually got hired pregnant with both times. Each about 6 months pg.
    So they knew.

I did have to tell a short term job that I was Pg and they were less than thrilled.
Sad that people cant be happy for other people.
But I quit that place ASAP! and got hired pg.

  • I was a graduate student when I had my baby. My mentor was fantastic! I think he had a premonition, because he hired a research assistant to help me with my experiments, and I started training the RA several months before I conceived. When it was time to come back, he gently gave me advice when I was struggling to keep it all together. He supported me through pumping breaks until DD was 8mo and I could stop pumping.
I think it worked out so well because I discussed starting a family during grad school with him before I started in his lab.

  • Hi Lylah,
Well I can't say that my experience was as joyful as Kate (but go Kate!)

I have 4 children so every time I needed to go out on maternity was a little different b/c I worked at diff't place. But, I can honestly say my bosses were happy for me personally, but not as enthusiastic when it was really time for me to go or come back. I always worked up to about 3-4 weeks before my DD and helped get a replacement. I guess my work was appreciated and I could take my bosses hesitation as a good sign.

Coming back was always the hardest thing for me and them, so I finally decided after my 3rd child to step down from my demanding hours of being a director, and I took a pay cut to cut down my hours and be with my baby.

When I had my 4th, my husband told me to just stay home, so I just quit my job to avoid all the hassles.
