I do not think pregnant women should park in handicap spaces, unless there is a medical issue and they get a temporary permit. I would have never taken the risk, because if you get a ticket, is it really worth the hassle of going to the courthouse to fight it? I will say that I tended to shop at the grocery store in our area that had spaces for expectant moms, especially in the winter and in the "last days" of pregnancy.

After my son was born I was wishing for special spots for "women carrying a baby in a pumpkin seat" because that's when the long walk from the corner of the parking lot will really get you!
A couple of the malls here in Richmond, as well as 1 of the major grocery store chains have special up close spots marked off for Expectant Moms. They're not the handicapped places, but specially marked/signed places. To my knowledge, I've NEVER heard any negative remarks about it.
Yes this has been an ongoing discussion and there are trying to pass a law stating that only when your in your last trimester I believe, not clearly sure . That preganant women should have handicap parking. My question also is well when we take off leave from employment we receive disablitiy insurance and are temporarily declared disbaled for that time being, should women use the handicap parking, I think so for simple fact maybe they have a more serious complication with their pregnancy.I do understand that when pregnant we need all the exercise we can get but some women have really bad complications when they are pregnant and if they have no assistance from anyone like family then, I say yah on it. Because man when I was pregnant I had hyperemisis vomiting 24 hrs a day and seven days a week but I kept my but home too. Iam kind split in between this discussion . Iam glad you gys are shaing this with me.

Not unless they have a medical issue, which they would probably should not be driving anyway!

I know WHEN I was in my 8th and 9th month it was SUPER uncomfortable to walk more than a block. So the thought of parking there was sooooooooooo tempting!!! And I probably did it once or twice!
But I don't think its right.
BTW- my son was 11.3 - so I was pretty HUGE.
ahhaha
If you are having an uncomplicated pregnancy absolutely not. Pregnancy is not an illness, nor is it a handicap. Exercise is good for you! Now if you are having medical complications in your pregnancy I agree with Brandi.
I think that if you are having problems that would cause you to need to park there then just ask your doc for an Rx for a temp handicap placard. There is a form the doc fills out and you take it to the place where you register your car and pay like $10 bucks.

I do think that OBGYNs should be willing to do this -- if the patient really needs it.
