  • We shop for clothes as needed. Generally, I look at the clearance rack wherever we go and try to buy at a deep discount. I never pay full price. I normally purchase a new pair of running shoes once per year and do feel guilty everytime for spending around a hundred dollars on those. With four other people that "need things" it's hard to justify spending money on myself. I'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal, so I wear things until they wear out.

  • Hmm, my clothing budget is nonexistent these days and it's pretty depressing whenever I do see something I really want to splurge on (like a new swimsuit for summer or the new pair of sandals I need!!). I just hardly buy clothes anymore and I miss being able to buy whatever I want for myself. On the other hand I get to shop for adorable little girl clothes which makes up for it. :)

  • Wow! All of these comments woke me up to the fact that I've really slipped off my fashion pedastal and into the dark ages. I used to work in NYC and was a clothes horse. I shopped w/o limit, rhyme or reason - I was single then too (hahaha) I was called Imelda Marcos b/c of the amount of shoes I had. In the 80s I was also a hat, pocketbook, scarf, and shoe person. Can someone say accessorize? I'm ready for my closeup Mr. DeMille.

Now, I'd surely make the worst dressed list at any given moment. It's so disappointing to shop now that I think I purposefully wait until I really, really, really need something before I bare the burden to shop. I must get back to my old way....

  • I shop on weekends whenever I go out, I shop for going out outfit. As the weather changes I shop for new work clothes, shoes. I do give myself a budget of 100-150 dollars to spend at a time. I shop sales, or stores that offer bargains, such as Filene's basement and Marshalls. Also I won't spend more then 40 dollars on a skirt or a shirt. Suprisingly I am able to buy very nice clothes on such budget and get complements all the time.

  • Not as often as I did before I became a mommy! I never give myself a budget, I just try and shop for the best deals.

  • i go in spurts (hmm weather change perhaps!?) and seem to buy more tops than pants overall. right now i am on the hunt for shoes as almost all have worn out! I never realized i walk that much LOL!

basically i try to buy stuff when needed for a reasonable price. i would rather have 5 inexpensive fun items that last a year or two than 1 item that will last 10 or more years. my tastes (not to mention size!) fluxuates too much. Besides, it IS fun to buy some things that are trendy and fun but it's painful to spend a lot of money on something you know you wont wear as much once you see the next cute trend ;) (even if you dont live in NYC anymore!)

i generally go about twice a month and shop shop shop with one of my best girl friends. we catch up, linger over coffe and have lunch somewhere that serves us. it is as refreshing to my wardrobe as it is to my soul!

  • This is something I've been thinking about, actually. I used to work in NYC on 5th Avenue and would do a regular run-and-grab at HM, ZAra, and a few of my other favorite stores which were right there (No Barneys for me:) -- I'd try stuff on at home, and then return most of it. I kept pretty good tabs on what I was spending and while I didn't set a budget, I aimed to stay reasonable and not overspend.

We moved and I now live in suburb of Boston -- no stores around into which I could run during the day. So shopping is now an activity I have to get organized about and I have to tell you, I do a lot less of it (people also don't dress as fun or nicely here, so less incentives as well.) I'd say I buy a few things every few months -- and some little things, like more Ts for the gym, in between.
