  • I know mothers that have birthed children at the age of 31 with a husband at or around the same age that have NOOOOOOOOO business being parents. So to me, it is all very situational.

  • Considering that the average age for doing anything these days is going up I'd say it's really up to the couple. Personally just having a baby at 47 and 59 is a little unfair, but if the couple has alreayd had older children and it was an "accident" well at least the older siblings could be involved if anything comes up.
But, considering that when the child graduates high school the parents will be 65 and 77, and no matter how well one takes care of ones self you can't fool mother nature, I'd say that age is a factor at 47 and 59 and it is going to be a bit unfortunate for the child who probably will never get to realistically have his/her parents in their lives fully b/c they will be going into their golden years and just not physically up to all the challenges and milestones that children need from their parents.
Sad, but I'd have to say...no not really fair.

  • Like Kate said, I think it depends on the situation. If you have the health, energy, and desire to keep up with young children at that age, then go for it!

  • i think it depends on the parents and the support system. if the parents are healthy and live healthy and active lives with family and friends of various ages that help out - why not? if we always base our decisions about having children on the 'what ifs' i think we might not have any!
