Mommy days. I take one of my kids out to do something they choose or would love and give them 1:1 time all day.

My little guy created a bedtime ritual this year. When I tuck him in at night he tells me about his day. I get to hear what he built with Legos, what stories he read, who he played with, and anything special. In the past week or so he now asks, "What did you do today?" The other night I when I told him, he quickly responded, "That's boring!"
Something I used to do with my daughter (until she found other things/people to be with) was a couple of weeks before Christmas, she and I would go to Williamsburg and do some shopping in Merchant's Square and the Colonial shoppes and then go for High Tea at the Williamsburg Inn. She really lived it and so did I. I just wanted her to experience a little bit of "culture", something I never had the chance to do when I was groiwing up. Then she became a teenager and it wasn't "cool" anymore to do this. Maybe once she's out of college, it'll be cool again...

My favorite tradition is that we celebrate 1/2 birthdays with half of a birthday cake. And we have cake for breakfast on their real birthdays. OK, I confess...I like cake. I actually wrote a blog post on family traditions a while back and had a really good time thinking about some of the traditions that we have - let me try to post a link and see if this works... http://sabbaticalmom.blogspot.com/2008/03/spring-i s-here.html

At bedtime, the last thing i say is, "sleep tight, don't let any bedbugs bite, I love you and I'll see you in the morning" in a really cheesy sing-song voice. They say it along with me.
M's favorite is probably the Unicorn Story. Every night I make up one story about two lovely princesses who live in the kingdom of Macomb, and who have best friends that happen to be unicorns. I change things just a little to be different, but keep enough the same so that she knows the story is really about them. I've been writing them down to turn into a book for her. I'm hoping to get it done for her birthday.
A's favorite is when she and I have popcorn and watch Scooby Doo together, just the two of us. We love Scooby Doo.
now that 6 of my 9 kids are spread out all over the country, we text each other silly messages before things like the red sox games, celtics, pats, bedtime etc. we also text each other good news like games they win, promotions, anything good, to see how quickly it spread to the whole family lol
it makes us feel like we are still together sharing our day at the dinner table like old times!
Every night I read a story to my son. One night he picks it out and the next I pick it out. We read with lights out and use a flashlight. Then when the story is finished he rolls over and says "I love you mom" and I say "I love you too" and then he says "cuddle forever" and I say "absolutely..cuddle forever".

It took me a while to think about our traditions, cuz I don't really qualify them as such...but once I saw Nataly's post, I started going through our routines. A big one in our house right now is American Idol. My 4-yr old loves it, so on Wednesday nights he gets to stay up late and lay in our bed with us watching the results show.

Saturday morning walks around the lake in our neighborhood; Sunday night dinners at my parents house; annual events like a spring visit to the local farm, etc. Guess we have more traditions than I thought!
Nataly, that´s so not silly! Those are the moments she´ll remember later in life and she´ll always feel loved!

I have a few favorite rituals with my boys. Whenever I bake, I mix everything on a chair so they can help. My toddler dumps the ingredients in and they both help to stir. It´s far messier than if I did it on my own, but so much more fun.

Bedtime is another tradition that I really enjoy. We all snuggle up in the toddler´s bed and read stories and usually the boys end up tickling each other and laughing their heads off. It´s a lot of fun. :D
This is a silly one -- in the morning when my daughter wakes up I get into her bed and we cuddle for a few minutes. It gets the day started on such a great note! (even though we then have to rush around a bit more:)
