I was on a first name basis when I had my son in private school. Last year the school had to close due to lack of funds and I had to send him to public school and boy is it different. The teacher he has this year is very traditional and I call her Mrs... but I know other teachers at the school and I call them by their first names. I think next year will be different. This is a great question.
Absolutely! I regularly correspond with them via email, pop in for lunch and surprise the kids by walking up to get them and say hi to thier teachers at least once a week. It takes an effort on the parent's part. Our kids go to an urban public school. The teachers are all to used to parents who use school only as a place for thier kids to go so they can work. Takes some of them a bit to warm up. Kinda freaked them out when we were actuall interested in thier class and the school, I think!

Definitely. I have a great relationship with the girls' teachers. In fact A's teacher is an honorary Duffy. When the girls' are being very serious, they call her Miss Julia Duffy! She is at all of our important family events. Of course right now they go to a small pre-school. I am worried about what things will be like in the fall at kindergarten.
YES! I have a great relationship with my kids' teachers - past and present. We are definitely on a first name basis, in fact at my kids' school, many of the teachers are referred to by their first name by the students as well. Profe Richie, Profe Dina, Profe Kathy, etc. The school community is a rather close-knit community. Many staff and parents are friendly in and out of the school.
