How do you get work done at home? Do you have someone take care of the children? Do they entertain themselves?

We haven't solved this problem yet. If I stay up late doing work I regret it the next morning and am angry with him. If I force time during the weekends and when I get him he usually is angry with me.
I work from home one day a week, and it is increasingly difficult to get anything measurable done when my almost-one-year-old is awake - I do a lot of things before she wakes up and after she goes to bed, and during nap times. I definitely couldn't work from home more than one day a week, not without help.
Today is an especially trying day (why wouldn't they take a nap?!), so perfect for answering this question. I work with the girls playing around me. Frequently, the baby is balanced on my lap! My oldest is 2 1/2 and I just recently caved on the tv issue for an hour after supper/before bed. Definitely best to divide my time between work and play, so the kids get some direct one-on-one attention, but not easy.
My husband works nights as a musician, so he looks after our boys during the day while I´m working. It´s not distraction free by any means, since I am working in the same room, but it does help a lot. When he is on tour, it´s a lot more difficult! I find that taking frequent breaks to play with the kids really helps . . . as does letting them watch some TV. :)
I find it very hard to work from home because the kids (ages 3 and 9 mo) always need a little attention on themselves. I have a part time nanny who helps me out.

I divide my work into "distractions okay" work and "must concentrate" work. When I must concentrate, I let my toddler watch some Elmo or Barney. Yes, I totally caved on the tv-as-babysitter issue.
