I relocated to Pennsylvania this past summer due to a wonderful career opportunity. How do I adjust and meet new people in the new area?

I agree...Meetup.com has great local moms groups. Also, depending on your kids ages, make sure you attend birthday parties (that your schedule permits) sign them up for swim lessons..something like that. Maybe even the library.
My husband is a volunteer fireman, so I have gotten involved in the auxiliary group and met people through that. Also, I am friends with some of the other wives and we sometimes do things together while our husbands are at drill or training. I live in Pennsylvania - where are you? I'm always looking for other moms to know!
Hey, I met lots of new people by joining a local moms group via Meetup.com. Just go to the site and plug in your zip code. All kinds of groups will spring up. Good luck!
We moved when I was 6 months pregnant to a place with family 1.5 hours away, but no one in the metro that we knew. I have tried several ways to meet new people. Online sites like this (seek out local members and email them...you might end up friends). We've also joined playgroups to get to know other parents and I just joined Jr. League to meet other women and do something for the community. Also search for a local Newcomer's club. You really have to try a few things and see if any friends come out of it.
We moved last year and two things that really helped us meet new people were getting a bit more involved in our daughter's school (including stuff like coming to drop off early so that I could meet other parents) and sticking around while our daughter is in an activity, like her music or ballet group.
I have found that volunteer opportunities are great places to meet new people. I met two of my closest friends through volunteer work. Getting involved in church or other civic activities is a good way too. Also look for different groups based on hobbies you might have. When I started running, I really fell in love with it because the people were so friendly. My local library has several different groups that meet every couple of weeks to discuss books. I always thought that looked interesting but I haven't been able to check it out yet. Looking at my friends, it seems I met most of them through my kid's activities.
