Okay... My Husband and I will be flying to Texas in December with our 12mo. old (he his currently 8mos.)... I am a little nervous because I have seen the crying baby on the airplane? Does anyone have any input on having/keeping a happy baby on a plane. I know the take-off and landing can be hard on the ears...Any advice will be great!”

  • Lots of parents travel with babies that age, so I`m sure you`ll manage. Like others have suggested, fly when he is normally sleepy. You might want to have him run around the airport while you are waiting to board.

Having snacks on hand is definitely a big help and some favorite books or toys will be good, too. Just a few familiar items to help him calm down if he gets overstimulated by all the new sights and sounds.

As for the Benadryl, if you choose to go that route, make sure you test it a few days before you go . . . my sons both had the opposite effect on Benadryl and were bouncing off the walls at bedtime!

  • If at all possible fly during his nap or bed time. We have flown a few times with my daughter and we let her crawl around (she is 10 months) and get out as much energy as possible before we fly, feed her a bottle when we take off and she is asleep mid-way through. Also if you can make sure to sit next to each other so you don't have to worry if you trade him back and forth or he wants to hang on to both of you. My daughter also loved looking out the window as we took off. I am a nervous flyer but she enjoyed take off to much it kept me calm.

  • Did you buy him his own seat or are you lapping it? If you can swing it, purchase his own seat and bring the car seat on the plan. Fly right before nap time. Is he still on a bottle? sucking is good for the ears.
GIve it to him mid elevation just before you get too high and let him suck away...then zzzzz.

Have the cheerios handy. Portbale DVD for baby einstein, Paci an extra change of clothes. some jar food. Extra Diapers in case of a delay, extra wipes, a small blanket, socks.

SOme give Benadryl to help the snooze but I experienced the reverse effect and my son went hay wire hyper. SO give that thought.

    Happy travels!
