Comments so Far...

  • My commute is 65 miles each way and due to considerable road construction, I have been working from home more often to ease the commuting nightmare. With a flexible schedule, I typically work four days per week to reduce my days on the road and the commute can take anywhere from one to three hours based on the time, weather and construction. Overall I don't mind the drive as it gives me time to listen to music and it gives me a chance to think through things in peace and quiet.

  • This makes me glad I live in a smaller city. My "commute" is only ten minutes, and it ends in a parking lot that overlooks a small ravine. right now the ravine is just past peak fall colors, but still looks gorgeous. I have to smile when I see this, and that puts me in a pleasant mood going into the school building to prepare for the day.

  • For the past 13 years I have had a one and a half hour commute each way - and that is with three of my four kids in the car! I can take the HOV lane because I'm technically a carpool but it doesn't help as much as it should. If the kids are good - my commute isn't too pad. I listen to a lot of podcasts and such but seriously - three hours a day in the car is just ridiculous! I used to telecommute two days a week which was AWESOME - but then the company decided to end all telecommuting.

  • I hate my commute. I drive 64 miles each way to an office with just my boss and myself and many times he is not in and traveling. So I go into an empty office. Somedays I do enjoy the drive. I catch up on all my calls so at night I have time with my family but mainly over the past 4 years it has worn on me.

  • The commute - my favorite subject. (Not.) I've posted several entries on my blog whining about Los Angeles traffic. My commute's about 30 miles each way, mostly freeway, and can vary from 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on what time I leave, how messed up traffic is, and whether alternate routes are available. The average time each way is about an hour most days. Public transit's an option, but not a practical one at this point, so I drive. Since my iPod adapter died :-( I usually bounce back and forth between NPR and AM-radio traffic reports in the morning, and mix in some of the music stations in the afternoon. If I'm in the right mood, it's good transition time between the home and work environments, but most of the time it's not my idea of fun.

  • hehe, my commute involves a quick stop at a local coffee place conveniently located in my kitchen, and then off for the long arduous journey to my desk :) complete with purple fuzzy slippers.

  • i have to admit - i love my 45 minute commute in the morning! i listen to the radio and just chill. on the way home though, it can be anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours! the not knowing is horrible. especially when you just want to be HOME. i try to think optimistically and visualize all the cars just moving out of the way! hey, it makes me chuckle! it's also really my only solitude time so i do enjoy that. but i think 45 minutes is my max. more than that and i start trying to think of who isnt eating dinner so i can call them to entertain me :) (hands free bluetooth in the car!)

  • This is going to sound silly - but I really enjoy the 10 minutes in the car when I drive my daughter to and from school. (Yes, I know it's not really a commute, but since I work from a home office, I count it!) On the way to school we sing or she says the funniest stuff about her friends there. On the way home I listen to NPR, which I love - and somehow it calms me for the start of the day.

(Once I quit a job because of the 1.5 hour commute each way - it was the most money I'd ever made, the most responsibility, etc - but I just couldn't do it. I would get road rage - and my husband said it would spill out in home rage:)

  • I live in New York City and when traffic is really bad it could take an hour to get to the office. Usually it's only about 25 minutes - I take a bus or a cab. But commute doesn't bother me because i can be productive on my bbry! :)

  • My commute is 30-45 minutes on country roads into the city. I drive a Prius to cut down on fuel costs, etc as we have chosen to live on top of a mountain just outside of Portland, OR. It's a pleasant drive, however, my morning commute is at 4am with zero traffic and sometimes icy, dangerous roads. I would much prefer walking into another room of the house and booting up my laptop! Let's hope that becomes a reality soon.

  • Depends on the time of day...if I wake up before the kids I just go to the next room which is the office. But if they wake up first it means having to go all the way downstairs to get milk/coffee. If I have no sitter then I work downstairs on the d.r. table. Sitter=office. Pathetic, huh?!! ;)

  • My commute is 1 hour drive each way. Luckily I only do it 3 days/week, but it's a killer. I do listen to music or NPR, which helps a bit.
