What are you doing (or not doing) for Thanksgiving? Hosting? Travelling? If extended family is involved, any interesting family dynamics?”

  • Just found out my oldest daughter and her husband going out of state to his sisters for Thanksgiving - so that means will just be a normal day with me and the hubby and my 2 daughters that live at home. Will make turkey and everything - but will no company just doesn't seem right.

  • Right from the beginning (and following some unpleasantness with traveling and family) I told my husband I wasn't prepared to travel to see family for major holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas. Just not happenin' Especially now with a baby. I just refuse to haul us all around airports and car rentals etc. We stay home and relax and have fun instead! We always call our families which is a lot easier and cheaper!

  • Going to my family's in NYC (we're in MA) Thurs thru Sat. Even though it costs more than driving ourselves, we take the bus. It's less stressful in many ways, and the service is good (used to be really skanky). My family (i.e. my growing-up family, not DH & DS) consists of mom, older bro, & mom's longtime BF. Mom is the Queen of HIGH MAINTENANCE, bro is socially challenged and immature, and BF is antisocial, even with (and sometimes especially with) us. All this in their teeny 1-BR apt. Mom - who gets so stressy whenever she has to cook, and she oftentimes feels obligated for family gatherings - is doing the smart thing and ordering Thksgvg dinner, which is a-OK with us. On the plus side, they adore our 7-yr-old guy and have planned a fun afternoon for the day after Thxgvg. Anyway, all in all it should be interesting! :-) - Paula.

  • We are going to see my husband's family this year. Which means that my MIL is hosting one thanksgiving, my FIL another, and I need to cook vegetarian for both. It should be pretty fun though, because we've never spent Thanksgiving with his family before.

  • This is one of the alternating years when my husband's kids are with us on Thanksgiving Day - but we don't have them for the whole weekend, so we're not going anywhere. My mother-in-law and my dad are coming for Thanksgiving dinner, and I'm cooking. I haven't done that for a few years so I'm actually looking forward to it. But none of us likes turkey, so I'll be making something else! :-)

  • we are going to my SILs house in Atlanta. Hubbys parents and brother (and family) live in OK so it's a good half way point. This will be the first time our son will meet all his cousins on that side of the family. My side is much closer (geographically) and my mother travels to visit much more often. it will be interesting!

nataly - just invite everyone to your house for dinner and see what happens! maybe they will all be on good behaviour since they are all in-laws ;)

  • This is sad-sounding, but I just put on my to-do list this morning: Figure out what's up for Thanksgiving. We just moved closer to both our families, which you'd think would simplify things. But since we don't get on that well with my husband's family, it's actually making things a bit nightmarish. Why can't we all just along:)
