Before heading out grocery or holiday shopping, I download some Maggie Tales (www.MaggieTales.com) to my cell phone. They're digitized storybooks for kids. My kid loves them. They keep him occupied in the mall or in long lines, which makes us both happy!
I Deligate. Putting other people in charge of some things. My sister makes a pie or two, my mom will grab a gift if I cant make it to that particular sale on time. Luckily people are usually willing to help, all I do is ask. :)
I try to sit back every once in a while and watch my kids. My 3-year-old is in awe of all of the "twinkly lights" that have sprouted up around town. She cannot figure out how "Twinkly trees" and "Twinkly houses" have appeared where there used to be plain old, regular trees and houses. My bigger kids are getting excited about keeping "good secrets" -- planning gifts for grandparents, thinking of ways to surprise their little siblings. Seeing their excitement and joy is a good reminder of what the holidays are supposed to be about, and I can let go of the things that are stressing me -- at least, for a little while.
I try to finish holiday shopping before December 1st. This year, I have one gift to go pick up and everything else is already wrapped. I should be completely done by the end of the weekend.
I start shopping early. I am done with my shopping already and just need to wrap the gifts. I also go to family member's homes for the meals so I don't have to cook.
I ordered our photo cards early and am going to use a tip I learned here and write a few cards daily from now on. We're only doing a few present for our daughter for Hanukah to make things simpler.I'm trying to buy as many gifts online as possible. Still stressed out, but these few things are helping!
