Some children are born with confidence and some are not. What are some solid confidence boosters to help those children that are struggling in the confidence department?”

  • I have a daughter who is often insecure. I give her tasks that are a challenge for her and pretty much insist that she make a serious attempt. Then she succeeds and feels proud of herself and more confident. I do believe in praising, but I look for things that are truly praise-worthy, because even young kids can tell the difference.

I also think it's important to consider what is behind "insecure" behaviors. Sometimes its just tiredness. Also, she is an introvert (like me), so she isn't going to act the same as an extrovert even when her confidence level is high. I think introverts sometimes mull things over in their minds to the point where they talk themselves into being timid. Sometimes I just have to remind her what to say/do and she'll do it and realize it didn't kill her. Since she could be a target of bullying, I've told her what to do/say if anyone did x/y to her, and we've practiced this, so now she does not get easily intimidated by other kids.

  • I would definitely suggest lots of confidence boosters like telling them how proud of them you are and giving them constant praise for the things they do. You want to always encourage them to do their best and to do what makes them happy
