Ask a question

This question is for WAHM of little ones. How did the birth of your child affect your business? How much time did you take off after your baby was born? I am due with my second in October. I know with my first, I was itching to do something besides baby stuff at about 6-8 weeks. I am not sure how it's going to work this time, since I'll have two little ones to take care of! Any advice on what I should expect, and how this might affect my work? Thanks, ladies! :)”

  • I have to admit that I didn`t take much time off after the birth of my second son. :S I actually was writing again about two or three days later.

It will depend hugely on how old your other child is and how much time you already put into your business. For me, it was fairly easy to work (I`m a freelance writer) around naptimes. My older son would play beside me as I worked on the computer (he was 16 months old) and I would type with the baby in a sling.

It`s definitely going to be more work, especially once your newborn starts demanding more attention, but in the beginning it`s not too bad. The biggest challenge for me was actually learning to deal with having TWO kids and that had nothing to do with work. :D

I would suggest working ahead if possible and getting everything set up so you can take as much time as you need. But if you find that you are wanting to work sooner rather than later . . . go for it! Just be sure to make lots of time to bond with your little ones and to give the older one some extra attention.
