Is it unreasonable to expect the school to contact a parent when their child receives a blow to the head? My son got a direct kick to the head just in front of the temple area - he's okay but I am really disturbed that he did not get sent to the nurse nor did I get a note or phone call informing me of the incident. Do I have unreasonable expectations?”

  • I work in healthcare, and knowing that any blow to the head can cause trauma...whether immediate or delayed, severe or minor...I would be appaulded (sp?) that he was not examined. I would also demand to be contacted if anything similar happens in the future. Is your son in school, preschool, daycare? I would have a talk with the/a supervisor/principle, etc. Really, I'd think the facility is at a big liability if the childrens' safety isn't 1st priority.

  • No it's not unreasonalbe, in fact they should always check the child out especially with a head injury. Or at least go to the nurse and then sit out the rest of the day. One never knows and when it comes to the head you can never be to careful.

  • How old is your son? Was he in a supervised area when this happened?

I would expect to be informed of the incident if my child were in elementary school. I would also expect to be informed of what was being done about it, discipline-wise.
