I have started several different businesses and have had some successes and some failures. I would have to say that buying a franchise is nice because of the name recognition, but their are a few constraints depending on what franchise you get involved in. I am now a consultant with Pampered Chef and I am really enjoying it because I have the name recognition with most people, but not a lot of constraints as to how I can conduct my business. I feel like I have the best of both worlds right now.
So to answer your question, I woiuld rather start my own business.
My own business - which I did start. I would much rather make my own path than have to live by others' rules and possibly their foibles. It does take a bit more courage - not just an out-of-the-box solution that will start bringing in money soon. But then again, it's all yours once the money starts coming in.
