"New week - new start" - that's what I like about Mondays, the POTENTIAL. Sometimes is actually materializes into something tangible - but maybe not until Tuesday. Also, traffic's usually lighter on Mondays and Fridays, so it helps ease into the week. (I'm a 5-day-a-week 8-to-5'er.) Both the best and worst parts of my day tend to involve dealing with people. People who know what they're doing and make my job easier are a joy to have around. The whiners who only care about their own problems - well, not such a joy, and they've been on my nerves this week. The hardest part of the day is whatever the crisis-du-jour turns out to be, and almost every day has one!
ha! Lee - i am right there with you! The best part for going into the office for me is the intelligent social aspect and the structure. Sometimes you just need a break from all the emotion and schedule upheaval. Work stuff can (usually, if someone isnt being a complete idiot) satisfy that need for a different kind of socializing. And freedom to choose a lunch that YOU want, with out considering who will want a bite and if they will like it too! If we had a drive through Starbucks I would be in trouble. It’s all I can do not to stop at the walk in only one I pass every morning. (that $4 coffee adds up!)
For me (I work in an office outside the home 3 days/week), the best part is the drive-thru at Starbucks. ;) What makes me look forward to Mondays? Well, that's a work-from-home day for me. But Tuesdays, the day I go INTO the office I look forward to a weekly meeting with sharp, interesting, nice people, and LUNCH OUT afterwards! I allow myself this one lunch per week and it's my favorite.
I go in to the office two days a week. The worst thing is dealing with the pomposity of some of the people I have to work with, either professors who are full of themselves and think they know everything (one committee member struck out the expression "upwardly mobile", saying this was not an English word. Huh?), or students who believe they are the center of the universe (when they should know damn well that *I* am the center of the universe!) and refuse to accept the rules of time and space (these are edited in the order the are received, by the editor who is free at that time, and it takes a human more than 3 hourse to edit a 200-page paper). The best part is when I am free from editing and can work on updating the websites and creating content for my editing blog. I look forward to Mondays because weekends are quite hectic, what with taking my daughter to train with our horse and then going to the gym, a seven hour cycle, and then all that...talking...Monday comes like a tall glass of cold water.
I love Monday's. A new, fresh start to a work week has always been exciting to me! I think what I love most about Monday's (or any work day for that matter) is working with interesting, intelligent and fun people and doing work that challenges me. The best part of my days (this is speaking as if I were actually WORKING and not home RECOVERING) is getting the opportunity to do new things and be a part of great teams. The hardest part? Sometimes juggling it all can be a bit much but I have an awesome management team that I can turn to for support if my workload gets to be too much.
Ok, since I've outed myself here about working from a home office, I am an impostor on this question. But I am still going to chime in!:)
Hardest thing on Mondays was doing what I called annoying work - paperwork, financial modeling, stuff that was part of the job but boring. So I tried to schedule some good meetings on Mondays because I found that interacting with people got me going.
My favorite part was having my coffee, reading the NYTimes and business blogs online for a few minutes - in peace! I really welcomed that part of the morning...
Hardest part of the day besides getting started? Having two little ones underfoot most of the time! And not having a network of people, um, adult people to talk to. Thank goodness for WIM. The best part, making my time my own...work when I want/can and have time to play with the girls...like right now I'm outside but i've got the laptop b/c I'm waiting on a client email. The girls are sliding and running and digging and dinner is already ready when we go in! Do I look forward to Mondays? Usually. It depends on the week. This week a babysitter started for 4 hours on Monday. Very freeing. I'll look forward to starting the week by being able to work on Monday morning instead of Sunday night!
