My 1 month old eats constantly! I have been breastfeeding him every three hours, per his pediatrician's recommendation. However, the past week he cries to be fed every 1 - 2 hours after eating for about an hour. I'm exhausted and my nipples are burning sore. I tried supplementing with formula to give myself a break, but he just pukes that up. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or is the situation hopeless, and the best I can expect is for someone to write commiserating reply?”

  • I had the same issue..crying one day, I called the maternity nurse and she said that it was ok to give a pacifier to my little angel.. I did and she was fine. Is your baby gaining weight properly? I used lanolin cream. It really helped! It's in a purple tube. The situation IS NOT hopeless. You can get through this!

  • I remember feeling like a pacifier. Give a call to a local hospital and find a lactation consulting nurse. I remember my little guy when he was teething would nurse like that and cry again (his ped would say babies start teething when they are born, so no it isnt too early for that). does he have an ear infection? ask the lacation nurse, but I wouldnt do formula. oh, also, I had to cut out gas-ious foods, spicey foods and milk/cheese from my diet because it gave him a stomach ache. maybe he has reflux? my little guy was a spitter but when he wasnt doing that he would just get that "bitter beer" face and be fussy. the prescription he had for reflux was heaven sent and there are no side effects. read up on reflux and if you think it is reflux dont let your pediatrician say "it is more of a laundry problem than a medical problem" thats baloney. if he looks like he is in pain and fussy, then it is more than a "laundry problem" guess what I am trying to say is, dont give up, have confidence in yourself, try everything, seek support. I wish you the best.

  • I'd call the Dr. and let them know and see what they want to do. Best to always error on the side of caution. Hugs
