Exercise is definitely a good energizer. but, above all, I agree that figuring out priorities and letting some things slide is a must. and, understanding that those priorities will shift. there are times when i have to put my job first and my husband pulls a little more weight. other times, I counter-balance that and make a priority to leave on time and get home to spend time with the family. For me, I can't look at one day in a vacuum, but as long as OVER TIME, I'm feeling balanced, it helps me stay sane.
I am actually considering switching careers to something less stressful. So far, this has been the only solution that I think could work because I have tried everything else.
Figure out what matters and let the rest slide. Find what relaxes you and keep doing that.
I have a friend for whom cleaning her house is a relaxing, refreshing experience. I am setting aside this year's bonus not in savings as in years past, but in a good cleaning service once a month because the thought of cleaning exhausts me.
My refresher is a good walk. Not too far, a mile or two. I did them when she was a baby (place in stroller & go), had to cut them down to once a week when she was small, but now she can walk that distance so we do, just making sure to add in a stop like the park for her half-way through. And I still take them alone when she's with her dad.
The only thing that keeps me energized as a mom is setting aside time to focus completely on my kids. It may not be a lot of time, but it's refreshing if it's focused.
In theory the same will happen once I learn to focus better on my work, but I'm not quite there yet.
My doctor suggested I take some vitamin D drops. I usually don't like the idea of "supplements" but after a few months of trying every other reasonable suggestion, I started putting 5 drops in my coffee once a day. It seems to help.
I used to be a big proponent of yoga, but to be honest, that mostly went by the wayside after my kids came home. I used to do it first thing in the morning, but nowadays I can't seem to get up earlier than I absolutely have to (naturally, considering how late I go to bed). And since I'm sipping coffee all day in order to function, I always feel "full" which is not ideal for yoga practice. I keep promising myself to get back into it, because it really does help.
